France to run new safety checks on nukes

France is to run a new health check on its oldest nuclear power reactors, French nuclear safety watchdog ASN said Wednesday. The ASN carries out complete health checks on EdF's reactors every ten years. The new checks concern all 34 of France's 900MW capacity reactors. The new "ten year inspections" were the "occasion for a profound inspection" of the plants to verify that they met all safetystandards, ASN said. "The aim is also to compare the level of safety (of the older plants) with more recent plants and to improve these levels by modifications if they are deemed necessary," it said.
