Spain’s Trillo nuclear power plant was nearing full load Monday morning, a plant spokesman said. The 1,066MW unit was running at over 90% after reconnecting to the power grid Friday 3.47pm (1347GMT). Trillo had been due to return online Jun 18 after a routine maintenance outage, but a series of problems delayed the unit’s restart. The Almaraz-2 nuclear power plant meanwhile went offline over the weekend to replace a diesel generator which had been under repair in France. The 983MW unit’s outage is expected to last five days. Spain’s nuclear power plants have had a patchy month of June, with three units experiencing problems added to a period of record demand due to a heatwave. This led not only to increased prices in Spain’s power pool but even led to some industries on interruptible supply contracts being cut off from the grid for short periods.
