ERSE pushes for integration of energy markets

Jorge Vasconcelos, president of ERSE, the European power and gas regulators' association is pushing for the rapid integration of the European energy market the newly formed ERSE said. Vasconcelos, president of the Portuguese market was appointed chief of ERSE, at a meeting in Brussels last week. Vasconcelos, who has lead the Portuguese energy sector through radical estructuring as it prepares for the launch of the single Iberian power market next year, is to serve a two-year term at the head of the European body. The association was set up by the European Commission Nov 11 as part of new directives on Europe's internal energy market. The choice of Vasconcelos as head of the group reflects his recent experience and the group's principal aim. The group is to advise the EC on how best to consolidate the integration of European energy markets and is charged with drawing up the appropriate regulatory measures to ensure a smooth fusion of EU energy markets through the consistent enforcement of EU directives.
