British Electricity Trading and Transmission Arrangements could be in place by October 2004, energy regulator Ofgem said. BETTA integrates the England and Wales market with the Scottish markets. It proposes a single trading code, a single grid
code, new charging methodologies, a single system operator and removal of current commercial arrangements on use of the
Scotland-England interconnector. "The target BETTA 'go-live' date of October 2004 is achievable," Ofgem said but added more work was needed to ensure the target is met. Ofgem said progress had been made since a planning seminar in February. A series of consultation papers have been prepared and first draft text of legal documents is being worked out. The UK government wants BETTA to be in place by April 2005 at the latest.
