UK energy
supplier Centrica plans a rapid move into the Spanish market following full liberalization
of Spanish gas and electricity on Jan 1, 2003. Centrica says that it has
obtained a license to sell electricity in Spain and that it plans to be supplying
its first customers in late Q1 or early Q2 of 2003. Centrica is going to target
the small and medium enterprise segment. There are about 1.75-mil such
customers in Spain. Centrica plans initially to be active in three regional
markets, covering 600,000 of these accounts. It is targeting customers with an annual
consumption of about 35,000kWh and an average bill of about Eur3,200. Centrica
is already active in Belgium, via Luminus.
