EdP starts 400MW Ribatejo CCGT project

Electricidade de Portugal has inaugurated the first 400MW unit of the planned 1,200MW Central Termica do Ribatejo combined-cycle gas-fired plant, the Portuguese power producer said. The generator, located at Carregado northeast of Lisbon, began perating in February, while the second unit is scheduled to be completed in October of this year and the third in March 2006. EdP added that the Ribatejo CCGT, budgeted at around Eur450-mil ($540-mil), is the first power plant in Portugal whose output will be dedicated to the liberalized market.
