Austria's EXAA power exchange is to hold simulations for carbon dioxide emissions trade from Feb 7 to Feb 18, a spokesman for the Graz-based exchange said Thursday. Start of trade operations is planned for the first quarter, but no exact date is available. "We hope to be able to start within this quarter, but while we at EXAA are ready, there is a delay because of the Austrian registries," said the spokesman. "It could be Mar 1 until we start." EXAA plans to offer only one product as it believes it unnecessary to differentiate between the years of phase one (2005-2007). During phase two (2008-2012), different products for the years are planned. EXAA's CO2 trade is to differ slightly from the products other exchanges offer. EEX is to offer daily spot trade, Nord Pool offers continuous trade, while EXAA said it did not see liquidity for daily and continuous trade. So it plans to have one or two days each month when companies can trade.
