Shell to build world's biggest solar plant

Shell Solar is to build a 5MW solar power plant in Espenhain, south of the city of Leipzig, Germany it said Monday. Shell believes the plant would be the biggest solar plant built yet. The plant is a joint venture with Geosol, based in Berlin. The plant is expected to be online by July. The power is to be fed directly into the grid of enviaM Mitteldeutsche Energie. That amount of ower would supply about 1,800 households and through the climate-friendly generation about 3,700 mt of carbon dioxide is to be saved. Siemens is to provide transformers and connections to the medium-voltage grid. The company has as yet delivered solar cells and modules with a total of over 350MW capacity.
