A strike by French energy workers cut output by 12GW at 5am (0700GMT) Tuesday morning, according to the latest CGT trade union information. Strike action at nuclear, oil and coal plants across France began at 9pm (1900GMT) Monday night. By 9.30pm local time output had been reduced by 8GW. Output at nuclear power plants at Flamanville, Fessenheim, Paluel, St Laurent,Penly, Golfech, Cruas and Chinon had all been hit by 5am Tuesday as cuts in production worsened. The strike was expected to continue to hit output until 9pm, the union said. The level of output cuts Tuesday depended on alerts received from the grid manager RTE telling of technical problems or calling for power to be restored urgently to avoid cutting supplies, the union spokesman said.
